Summary/Objective: The Job Coach will be responsible for providing Job Coaching services to individuals served at their place of employment in the community. The Job Coach will also be responsible for assisting as needed in the marketing of the vocational department in order to assist the individuals served to obtain community employment. The Job Coach will also be responsible for filling in at the recycling center or enclave sites as needed.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Report issues of concern to the Employment Services Coordinator. Offer ideas and suggestions for resolution of concerns. Use appropriate methods and channels of communication.
  • Provide job coaching services to the individuals served at their community employment.
    • Providing job development/obtain a job services to assist individuals served in filling out applications for future job opportunities, preparing for interviews, following up on applications submitted, being part of the interview process if needed, and providing job coaching to those individuals once hired at their community employment.
    • Provide own transportation to and from the community job sites and transport individuals as needed to their community job sites.
    • Will communicate with owners, managers, contacts, etc., at the work sites to ensure the individuals are meeting expectations and make changes and improvements where needed.
    • Assist as needed in the marketing of the vocational program to obtain community employment for individuals served.
  • Documentation responsibilities:
    • Complete service documentation to record interventions and responses to reflect the goals and ongoing supports of the individuals served.
    • Ensure all service documentation meets Iowa Code standards including individuals name, date of birth, medical assistance number, day, month, and year, start and end time (including a.m. and p.m.) of service provision, as well as staff printed name, signature, title, credentials, location of services, change of service location and timeframe, and note of availability for health and safety.
    • Ensure documentation includes attention to detail (e.g., completed legibly, errors corrected properly, use of approved abbreviations, cross out unused portions of log, etc.). Complete documentation in a timely manner following service provision. Turn logs in daily.
    • Complete incidents/accident/behavior incident reports accurately and promptly.
    • Ensure all service documentation meets Iowa Code standards utilizing the Edoc system.
  • Supervise individuals with disabilities working in production areas.
    • Provide services based upon individual goals and objectives. Teach individuals rather than doing for them.
    • Encourage individuals to learn new skills and develop new interests related to their employment.
    • Provide for the safety of the individual served with the least amount of intrusion as possible.
    • Use behavior strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviors.
    • Be an active advocate for individuals receiving services to have greater control over their lives. Encourage individual choice and decision making.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOL, HCBS, CARF, and DHS regulations.
    • Ensure safe operation of all equipment and wear safety gear.
  • Ensure individual medications are administered, stored, and documented appropriately and according to the six rights of medication administration.
  • Participate in decisions affecting the vocational program, such as goals and objectives.
  • Participate in cross training within a variety of vocational areas (enclaves, recycling, and assembly rooms).
  • Work weekends, nights, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and in the community.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • May require lifting at times, up to 35 pounds. Lifting more than 35 pounds requires the use of a two-person lift, mechanical lift, or assistive equipment.
    • May require prolonged sitting and working at a computer for up to eight hours.
    • May require frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
    • May require prolonged standing for up to eight hours.
    • Must wear hearing and eye protection in required areas.
    • Must have ability to see objects/persons at a distance.
    • Must have ability to see close work such as typed or handwritten material.
    • Must have ability to hear conversations in a quiet and a noisy environment.
    • Must have ability to determine where a sound is coming from.
    • Must have ability to hear differences among bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.
    • Must have ability to communicate through speech.

Travel: Frequent travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Two years post high school education or experience in related field.
    • BA degree preferred.
    • Vocational experience preferred.
    • Minimum of three years' experience working in an agency providing services to persons with disabilities preferred.
    • Basic computer skills including MS Word.
    • Background checks with previous employers, references, law enforcement agencies, and others will be conducted and found satisfactory.
    • Valid driver's license and driver's record deemed acceptable by Imagine the Possibilities, Inc.
