Summary/Objective: The Employment Skills Professional is responsible for all areas of production including contract work, sub-contract work, recycling, janitorial, kitchen, on and off site supervision, and other areas as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Report issues of concern to the Services Coordinator. Offer ideas and suggestions for resolution of concerns. Use appropriate methods and channels of communication.
  • Supervise individuals with disabilities working in production areas.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOL, HCBS, CARF and DHS regulations.
    • Ensure safe operation of all equipment and wear safety gear.
  • Provide services based upon individual goals and objectives.
    • Teach individuals rather than doing for them.
    • Use behavior strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviors.
    • Encourage individuals to learn new skills and develop new interests related to their employment.
    • Be an active advocate for individuals receiving services to have greater control over their lives. Encourage individual choice and decision-making.
  • Ensure all service documentation meets Iowa Code standards utilizing the Edoc system:
    • Include individual's name, date of birth, medical assistance number, day, month, and year, start an end time (including a.m. and p.m.) of service provision, as well as staff printed name, signature, title, credentials, location of services, change of service location and timeframe, and not of availability for health and safety.
    • Ensure documentation includes attention to detail (e.g., completed legibly, errors corrected properly, use of approved abbreviations, cross out unused portions of log, etc.).
    • Complete service documentation to record interventions and responses to reflect the goals and ongoing supports of the individuals served.
  • General responsibilities:
    • Complete documentation in a timely manner following service provision. Turn logs in daily.
    • Provide for the safety of the individual served with the least amount of intrusion as possible.
    • Participate in decisions affecting the vocational program, such as goals and objectives, budgeting, space allotment, quality, and inventory control.
    • Ensure quality control of materials, inventory, pickup and distribution schedule, as well as keeping equipment and materials in operable order. All purchase orders must be verified by Services Coordinator.
    • Participate in cross training within a variety of vocational areas (Job Coaching, Enclaves, Recycling and Assembly rooms).
    • Work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Ensure individual medications are administered, stored, and documented appropriately according to the six rights of medication administration.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

  • Build a sense of unity and purpose among coworkers, supervisors, and individuals served by working as a team member.
  • Ensure all Imagine the Possibilities, Inc. policies and procedures are followed, including the Compliance and Integrity Program and Safety.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May require lifting at times, up to 35 pounds. Lifting more than 35 pounds requires the use of a two-person lift, mechanical lift, or assistive equipment.
  • May require prolonged sitting and working at a computer for up to eight hours.
  • May require frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • May require prolonged standing for up to eight hours.
    • Must wear hearing and eye protection in required areas.
    • Must have ability to see objects/persons at a distance.
    • Must have ability to see close work such as typed or handwritten material.
    • Must have ability to hear conversations in a quiet and a noisy environment.
    • Must have ability to determine where a sound is coming from.
    • Must have ability to hear differences among bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.
    • Must have ability to communicate through speech.

 

 

Travel: Limited travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • At least 18 years of age with High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years' experience in production preferred.
  • One year's experience in supervision in related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of practices of vocational rehabilitation preferred.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Word.
  • Background checks with previous employers, references, law enforcement agencies, and others will be conducted and found satisfactory.
  • Valid driver's license and driver's record deemed acceptable by Imagine the Possibilities, Inc.
